Currently, cardiovascular disease is one of the main causes of death in many countries, one of which is Indonesia where the death rate caused by cardiovascular disease reaches more than one million cases. Heart disease itself can be caused by many factors including genetic, age, gender, stress, smoking habit, high cholesterol level, hypertension, diabetes and obesity. Up until now, no permanent cure has been found, but there have been many improvements in technology to detect early symptoms of cardiovascular disease so that preventive actions can be taken to reduce the risk of death. A form of cardiac imaging development that is currently being used is Cardiac Computed Tomography, an examination of the heart using CT (Computed Tomography) with contrast media for visualization of the anatomy of the heart, coronary circulation and large blood vessels of the heart. Cardiac Computed Tomography which is also known as CT Angiography is the best imaging modality to obtain visualization of the major coronary arteries. In this guest lecture themed “Cardiac CT Imaging”, a more detailed discussion will be carried out for the Cardiac CT examination procedure so that the patients feel comfortable without pain and a maximum imaging picture can be obtained.
The purposes of the guest lecture “Cardiac CT Imaging” are :
- To understand the usage of intravenous contrast media to visualize coronary arteries in high resolution imaging with minimal scanning time and non-invasive procedure
- To examine Cardiac CT image which has 96% sensitivity and 86% specificity
- Cardiac CT is expected to produce a holistic heart examination using 4D CT
